BBN Toolkit

BBN established in December 2002 with the following charter:


Create an environment that utilizes the creativity and intellect of Abbott’s Black population to improve the operating results of Abbott Laboratories. Develop an environment at Abbott that encourages the participation and advancement of Blacks at all levels of the company.

Strategic Objectives

  • To support Abbott Inclusion and Leadership Development initiatives with strategies and actions focused on increasing the number of Blacks at Abbott and developing leadership competencies at all levels.
  • To focus on leadership development and mentorship as primary vehicles to grow Black leaders.
  • To recommend ways to retain and attract Black talent.
  • To build an informal networking system to support Blacks at Abbott.
  • To encourage Diversity and Inclusion at all levels.
  • Identify and bring business opportunities in the African American marketplace to Abbott.
  • To effectively promote and communicate Abbott’s internal and external image as a “premier” employer and a “great place to work” to the Black employee population.

  • June 23, 2003 launched 1st Network Event in Lake County, over 250 attendees. Simulcast to RPD Columbus – Exceptional feedback
  • October 29, 2003 held 2nd Network Event in Lake County, over 250 attendees. Simulcast to RPD Columbus - Exceptional feedback
  • Black History Event, February 23, 2004
  • Ross Products launch of BBN in Columbus – March 11, 2004
  • Developed and established 2004 goals and timelines
